Out-of-band management

Diagnostics via iLO 5 / iLO 6.

iLO (Integrated Lights-Out) is HPE's out-of-band management. iLO 5 on Gen10/Gen10 Plus, iLO 6 on Gen11. Standard license is included; Advanced and Advanced Premium Security enable graphical remote console, virtual media, federation.

Typical failures we handle: iLO firmware corruption (USB-key recovery), unreachable iLO after firmware upgrade (factory reset via SYS_RST jumper), license loss after motherboard swap, dedicated iLO network issues.

IML (Integrated Management Log) and AHS (Active Health System) are the two main diagnostic sources. AHS in particular saves 10000+ data points per second: everything we need to diagnose even intermittent failures.

What we do on the hardware

Specific HPE interventions.

ProLiant motherboard replacement. Smart Array config re-import, BIOS/UEFI configuration restore, iLO Advanced re-license via HPE channel where allowed. On Gen9/Gen10 OS transplant is usually transparent.

HPE SmartMemory. IML reading to identify the affected bank. Replacement with HPE SmartMemory original or equivalent. Post-replacement validation via extended memtest86+.

Smart Array controllers. Replacement of P408i-a / P440ar / MR416i-p / E208i-a / P824i-p. Cache battery (FBWC, Smart Storage Battery): preventive replacement every 3 years. Array recovery after controller failure with configuration import.

HPE Common Slot PSU. Diagnosis via iLO and status LEDs. Replacement of Common Slot Platinum 500W/800W/1600W and Titanium 800W/1000W in production on N+1 redundant configurations.

Thermal paste refresh on Xeon Scalable and AMD EPYC (Gen10 Plus). Thermal sensor history analysis via iLO. High-performance heatsink swap on models with high-TDP CPUs.

HPE Apollo for AI/GPU. Work on Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus and HGX configurations with NVIDIA H100/H200: thermal paste refresh on CPU cores under continuous load, replacement of degraded ECC RAM, OS recovery when software repair was insufficient (underlying hardware fault), integration of new GPU generations.

Spare-parts strategy

Original, refurbished, equivalents — always disclosed.

HPE official channel. Original HPE parts when the model is still in active support and the customer requests them for contractual requirements.

HPE Renew / certified refurbished. For end-of-life models or when original parts are no longer in production, we use the tnsolutions group's certified-refurbished pool and the HPE Renew program where available, always with warranty.

EOL sourcing on Gen8/Gen9. On ProLiant DL380 Gen8, DL360 Gen9, DL580 Gen8/Gen9 and other EOL models still in production, we source motherboards, DIMMs, PSUs, controllers — compatible donors disclosed in the quote where needed.

What customers ask before sending us a HPE.

Do you repair HPE ProLiant Gen8 and Gen9 servers now end-of-life?

Yes. DL380 Gen8 and Gen9, DL360 Gen9, DL580 Gen9 are still widely in production. We maintain trusted sources for original spares (when reachable) and certified refurbished. We work on iLO 4 (older but still supportable) and on Smart Array P420i / P440ar controllers from those generations.

Do you transfer the iLO Advanced license when replacing the motherboard?

The iLO Advanced license is tied to the server's serial number. On motherboard swaps we coordinate the license transfer with the HPE channel where allowed. When not allowed we document the constraint and propose a new license or downgrade to iLO Standard. iLO and BIOS/UEFI configuration are always preserved where technically possible.

Do you work on HPE Synergy and BladeSystem blades still in production?

Yes. On BladeSystem c7000 (legacy) we work on individual BL460c/BL660c blades, Onboard Administrator, Virtual Connect interconnects. On Synergy SY12000 we work on compute nodes (SY480/SY660/SY680), composer, frame links, interconnects. For interventions impacting the entire fabric we coordinate with the customer's networking team.

How do you use AHS / Active Health System logs for diagnosis?

AHS records 10000+ data points per second on hardware sensors. We export the AHS file via iLO or Smart Update Tools and analyze it for correlations between crashes, temperature/voltage/current sensors, PSU events, MCE. Particularly useful for intermittent faults where standard IML may be insufficient.

Do you work on HPE Apollo 6500 and AI/GPU configurations?

Yes. We managed hardware support for years on a multinational consumer-electronics group's GPU cluster (under NDA). Typical work on Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus: thermal paste refresh on CPU cores under continuous load, replacement of degraded ECC RAM modules, OS recovery when software repair was insufficient (underlying hardware fault), integration of new NVIDIA GPU generations.
