When a device in the datacenter has to be replaced outright — an EOL server, a switch due for renewal, storage to be retired — we handle the physical swap: delivery to the site, removal of the existing unit, installation of the new one in the rack, tidy cabling, validated power-on, and decommissioning of the outgoing device.
End-to-end.
- Shipping coordination and delivery to the datacenter.
- Removal of the outgoing device with orderly disconnection, cable labelling and configuration dump where applicable.
- Installation of the new device in the rack: rail mount, cable management, power from the correct PDU.
- Cabling with labels, clean routing and compliance with the host datacenter's standards.
- Power-on and validation: initial configuration check, network connectivity, BMC access.
- Decommissioning of the outgoing device: physical collection, optional secure disk erasure, certified WEEE disposal.
Secure erasure before decommissioning.
A decommissioned device may hold disks with sensitive data. At the customer's request we perform secure erasure before collection: multipass wiping, hardware-level sanitize (ATA Secure Erase, NVMe Sanitize), or physical destruction of the media with a certificate. Documentation is handed over to the customer for compliance purposes.
The questions we get most often.
Replacing a server: is data migration included?
The hardware side, yes (mounting, cabling, power-on). Data migration at the sysadmin level (application re-deployment, VM restore, logical network configuration) is typically a separate activity. We often work alongside the customer's sysadmin team (in-house or external, including AssistenzaServer.eu for Northern Italy).
Does decommissioning include disposal compliant with regulations?
Yes. RAEE/WEEE disposal with compliant documentation. Disks can be physically destroyed with a certificate of destruction, or handed back to the customer for internal handling.
